Sniff...Sniff...Fish On!!!
|
On a recent fishing trip onboard his boat the Waikaloa, my friend Captain Bob (AKA Bentcan Bob) and his crew of two were trolling 12 miles offshore at Barbers Point, Hawaii. The bite was slow but the conversation was good. With more interest in what they were saying than what they were doing no one heard the line peeling off the corner pole when the Marlin took the bait. It was deckhand Bob's lady friend who noticed a peculiar odor and commented that it must be coming from Barbers Point. Deckhand Bob agreed and added that the odor is like wood burning. Burning! This spooked Captain Bob, and so he went below to make sure that the smell was not his boat burning. As Bent Can was looking around on the deck he noticed a strange thing...his corner fishing rod was bent over, smoking, and dripping grease as very little line remained on the spinning spool. BACKOFF...BACKOFF...Bob shouted to his deckhands as he reached over to adjust the drag on that reel to try to stop the fish from spooling the line. OUCH! THAT'S HOT...he shouted, as the red hot star drag blistered his hand. After the initial excitement Captain Bob was able to coach his crew and retrieve the 168 pound Blue Marlin. Good Job to Captain & Crew.
